Corner Lot Garden Center occupies a former gas station lot that founders Theo and Aisha Rahman turned into raised beds, shade houses, and a potting shed cafe. They wanted plant advice without the big-box shuffle — someone who knows Des Moines clay and NOG microclimates. Starter veggies, native perennials, and soil amendments share space with Saturday pruning demos. The origin story includes a failed first winter, a community mulch day that saved the season, and a chalkboard that still lists “what to plant this week.” Theo still opens the gates at seven; Aisha still remembers which customers swore they couldn’t keep a fern alive — and now do.
