Neighborhood Legal Aid Desk is a nonprofit clinic founded by attorneys Carla Nguyen and Ben Ortiz after seeing too many eviction and consumer cases tip the wrong way for lack of early advice. They staff walk-in hours, notary help, and referral nights with volunteer lawyers. The origin story starts in a church basement and moved to a bright storefront so clients wouldn’t feel hidden. Sliding-scale document prep and know-your-rights workshops are core. Carla still takes Monday intake; Ben still runs the Thursday housing clinic.
